1. Economic Geography of Industrial Agglomeration and Location

 

Why Industries Cluster — We analyze agglomeration economies (labor market pooling, intermediate input sharing, and knowledge spillovers) alongside core–periphery dynamics. By measuring how the balance between centripetal and centrifugal forces shapes regional industrial landscapes, we model industrial location and commercial trade areas based on location theory. Furthermore, we examine the linkage between location strategy and regional development to determine where and which industries should be fostered to maximize regional economic spillover effects.

 

2. Agri-Food Cluster & Smart Farming

 We analyze the spatial clustering and regional innovation ecosystems of agri-food processing complexes and smart farming hubs. To prevent sixth-industrialization (integrated agriculture) and smart farming from falling into the trap of “only successful farms getting ahead,” we explore pathways to expand these technologies into community- and cooperative-based regional circular economies rather than relying solely on individual star farms. Ultimately, we design structures in which agri-food industrial agglomeration feeds back into local employment and income, revitalizing the entire rural economy.

 

 

3. Data-Driven Regional Economic Analysis

By combining efficiency analysis (Data Envelopment Analysis / Stochastic Frontier Analysis) with panel and time-series modeling, we leverage big data, machine learning, and deep learning-based forecasting and causal inference to support sophisticated, data-driven decision-making. In addition, we address both temporal and spatial dimensions using spatial regression models and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). Through these methods, we empirically evaluate whether regional industrial development policies genuinely drive regional economic growth.

 

4. Behavioral Economics & Industrial Organization

We apply game theory to analyze the competitive and cooperative dynamics among firms and actors within regional industries. By investigating how information asymmetry (adverse selection and moral hazard) impacts market structures and strategy, we design optimal collaborative networks and incentive schemes to enhance regional industrial competitiveness and promote shared regional economic growth.
